EDIA (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility) Award for Support Staff
The EDIA Award for Support Staff recognizes outstanding contributions made by support staff in advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility within their roles, unit, or department, with a substantial impact on the university community. Nominees must be current, full-time employees of the University of Calgary. Nominations should provide evidence of the nominee’s commitment to EDIA activities over at least six months prior to nomination.
Criteria for the Support Staff EDIA Award include:
- Impact on EDIA Initiatives: Demonstrated involvement in initiatives that promote equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, including evidence of successfully implementing programs or practices that enhance EDIA.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: Evidence of collaborative efforts with diverse teams in fostering an inclusive environment among colleagues and partners.
- Advocacy and Leadership: Proactive advocacy for underrepresented groups, with evidence of leadership in EDIA-related projects or activities.
- Innovation: Introduction of new ideas or practices that significantly advance EDIA goals, including creative problem-solving to address EDIA challenges within the unit and campus community.
- Community Engagement: Active engagement with the broader university community to promote EDIA values, including participation in outreach programs supporting diverse populations.
- Sustainability: Demonstrated commitment to long-term EDIA efforts, including the sustainability of initiatives and ongoing professional development related to EDIA.
- Feedback and Recognition: Positive feedback from colleagues, supervisors, peers, or university community members regarding the nominee’s EDIA contributions, as well as any other recognition or awards related to EDIA efforts.
Nomination Process
- Submission of Nomination Form: A comprehensive nomination form specific to each award category must be submitted, detailing the nominee’s contributions to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA).
- Evidence of Impact: Include clear, specific examples that demonstrate the nominee's achievements, highlighting both current and potential future impact on EDIA.
- Supporting Documentation: Additional materials are encouraged, such as work samples, letters of support from faculty or community members, and an optional personal statement from the nominee that outlines their EDIA contributions.
- Eligibility for Nomination: Nominations are welcome from faculty, students, staff, and peers.
- Relevant Documentation: When applicable, provide documentation of relevant activities or projects that further illustrate the nominee’s contributions.
Evaluation
The EDIA Awards Adjudication Committee will evaluate nominations using a detailed rubric based on the award criteria, assessing both qualitative and quantitative impacts of the nominee’s work.
