EDIA (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility) Award for Sessional Instructors
The EDIA Award for Sessional Instructors recognizes individuals who demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility within the academic environment. Nominations should provide evidence of the nominee’s involvement in EDIA activities over at least six months prior to nomination.
Criteria for the EDIA Sessional Instructor Award include:
- Commitment to EDIA Principles: Evidence of the nominee’s dedication to embedding equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in teaching practices and course materials.
- Innovative Teaching Practices: Use of inclusive teaching methods that address and accommodate diverse learning styles and backgrounds, breaking down barriers to learning.
- Support for Underrepresented Students: Demonstrated efforts to mentor and support students from underrepresented groups, promoting their academic and personal growth.
- Engagement in EDIA Initiatives: Active participation in university programs or initiatives that advance EDIA values.
- Scholarship and Research: Contributions to research or scholarship focusing on EDIA topics within the university context.
- Positive Impact: Evidence of positive outcomes for students and the broader university community as a result of the nominee’s EDIA efforts.
- Collaboration and Community Building: Engagement with colleagues within and across departments to foster a more inclusive and supportive academic environment.
Nomination Process
- Submission of Nomination Form: A comprehensive nomination form specific to each award category must be submitted, detailing the nominee’s contributions to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA).
- Evidence of Impact: Include clear, specific examples that demonstrate the nominee's achievements, highlighting both current and potential future impact on EDIA.
- Supporting Documentation: Additional materials are encouraged, such as work samples, letters of support from faculty or community members, and an optional personal statement from the nominee that outlines their EDIA contributions.
- Eligibility for Nomination: Nominations are welcome from faculty, students, staff, and peers.
- Relevant Documentation: When applicable, provide documentation of relevant activities or projects that further illustrate the nominee’s contributions.
Evaluation
The EDIA Awards Adjudication Committee will evaluate nominations using a detailed rubric based on the award criteria, assessing both qualitative and quantitative impacts of the nominee’s work.
