Frequently Asked Questions

Thank you for visiting our website! Here are some questions we commonly receive.

Thank you for signing up! Once you've signed up online you should get an e-mail confirmation from our Research Coordinator. Your information will then be entered into our secure database which only our researchers have access to. When we are recruiting participants for a particular study, we will see if your child is of age for that study (for example, only 4-year-olds). If they are of age for that study, we will contact you and let you know some information about the study including how long it will take. If at that point you are interested in booking an appointment - we will book one in a time that works for you.

You don't have to - but we're always happy to hear from you!

Our studies all look at specific age ranges (for example, only 11-month-olds, or only 4-year-olds) and so sometimes your child might not be eligible for any of the current studies due to their age. Once we see that your child is of age for a study, we will get in touch with you and see if you're interested in having your child participate.

However, you're always more than welcome to get in touch with us and we can make sure that we have your most up to date information! Sometimes you may not have heard from us because we have outdated or incorrect information and haven't been able to get in touch.

So when in doubt, feel free to e-mail us at child@ucalgary.ca

No, however if there is a comfort item that your child has you can feel free to bring it to the appointment (for example, a soother for your baby).

If you are arranging for a family member or a friend to bring in your child, we will send you a consent form ahead of time for you to sign and we will require that your family member/friend bring the signed consent form in at the time of the appointment.

Studies typically consist of a one time visit to the university and appointments are less than an hour. Most of our studies are very short (less than 20 minutes) but some can be longer than an hour. When you get contacted by a researcher, they will let you know the specifics for that study.

No. We will provide you with a parking pass to use for the appointment.

Yes! We have babysitters that can watch over your children while your other child is participating in the study. Just make sure to let us know that you need a babysitter and we will be sure to arrange one for you!
