In addition to Faculty of Graduate Studies and Faculty of Science requirements, the Department requires:
All students must complete three components of the Scientific Communication Skills course, Physics 691.11, 691.12 and 691.13, during their graduate program. Students may be encouraged to repeat components of Physics 691 in order to improve their communication skills.
Master of Science (thesis-based)
a) All students must complete the core courses: 6 units from Physics 605, 609, 611, 613, 615 or 617 (only one of Physics 615 and 617 can be taken as a core course).
b) In addition, students must complete course requirements for their specialization as described below.
Astrophysics, Physics, and Space Physics
- Elective courses: 6 units at the 500 or 600 level, as approved by the Graduate Program Director.
Medical Physics
- Specialization courses: Medical Physics 623 and 625; and
- Elective course: 3 units at the 500 or 600 level, as approved by the Graduate Program Director.

Flexible Grade Option (CG Grade)
Students admitted to the PHAS Graduate Program will not be allowed to request the
Flexible Grade Option (CG Grade) for any course that is applicable to their degree; or apply any course awarded a grade of CG towards their graduation requirements.
Students may choose the CG grade for a course taken extra to load.
The use of the CG grade will not affect students' eligibility for internal awards.
