*Certain courses with restricted enrolments are available in the first instance to those Program Honours and Majors who have met all prerequisites and whose programs require such courses. 4.0 FCE - Breadth requirement: Options from outside the Faculty of Science**

4.0 FCE - Options

*Students have the option of completing Chemistry 353 or substituting 353 with an option.

** Note: These 4.0 FCE options are selected from faculties outside the Faculty of Science. Of these 4.0 FCE students must select at least 1.0 FCE from the Faculty of Arts (see 3.4.B.(d) Breadth requirement in Section 3 Faculty Regulations).

*Note: Commencing Fall 2011, Biology 241/243 will replace Biology 231/233 as the core introductory departmental courses, serving as prerequisites for the 300-level core biology courses and others. 

Biology 231 and 233 will no longer be offered effective Fall 2011.  To accommodate students with only one course completed when the transition occurs the Department will accept any pairing of the old courses (231/233) and the new courses (241/243) to satisfy the 1.0 FCE junior biology course requirement.

2.5 FCE - Biology 231, 233, 311, 313, 331 (Biocore)

1.0 FCE - Chemistry 201 or 211, and 203 or 213

1.0 FCE - One of Mathematics 249 or 251 or 281 and one of 211 or 213 or 253 or 283 (see Recommendations below)

6.0 FCE - Two FCE chosen from each of three of the areas that constitute the field. Of these, 3.0 FCE must be chosen from courses at the 400-level or higher. Note: These courses must be different from the Biology core program and Biochemistry 393.

1.0 FCE - Chosen from one of Biochemistry 530 or Botany 530 or Cellular, Molecular and Microbial Biology 530 or Ecology 530 or Zoology 530.

4.0 FCE - Breadth requirement: Options from outside the Faculty of Science*

* Note: These 4.0 FCE options are selected from faculties outside the Faculty of Science. Of these 4.0 FCE students must select at least 1.0 FCE from the Faculty of Arts. (see 3.4.B.(d) Breadth requirement in Section 3 Faculty Regulations).

• Major options should be selected to satisfy the requirements for entry into another chosen major program or to satisfy the requirements for the Biological Sciences program. (See Required Courses - Major Program and Required Courses - Honours Program.)
• Courses in Marine Science may be taken for credit during the summer and/or students may elect to spend the fall of either the third or fourth year attending the Bamfield Fall Program. Refer to the Marine Science course listings for details.
