Office of the President and Vice-Chancellor

Welcome to our diverse community of students, creators, scholars and visionaries at the University of Calgary. We are a campus of over 35,000 people committed to teaching, learning and research that will provide a deeper understanding of the world around us.

As a dynamic intellectual hub, we are focused on delivering an exceptional learning environment for our students — one that is enriched by research, hands-on learning and entrepreneurial thinking. Our Academic Plan 2018-2023 guides and informs how we are moving forward as a learning environment, with a strong focus on student experience and campus culture.

On our mission to create new knowledge and translate our discoveries into positive societal impacts, the University of Calgary has also set a clear path forward through our Research Plan 2018-2023. This plan lays out a roadmap for us to match our strengths with opportunities, increase research capacity and drive innovation. We have made significant progress towards our Eyes High goal to be recognized as one of Canada’s top-five research universities and a key contributor to communities near and far.

UCalgary’s vibrant, inclusive and close-knit campus community sets us apart by demonstrating our core values on a daily basis. Our shared values come to life through our Indigenous StrategyCampus Mental Health Strategy, Institutional Sustainability Strategy, UCalgaryStrong Festival and the U Make a Difference awards, among many other initiatives. Through these institutional strategies, events and awards, we foster a campus culture where students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors feel welcome, energized and connected.

As we strive towards these ambitious goals, UCalgary relies on strong partnerships within the community. Calgary is not just North America’s Most Liveable City; it is also the home of extraordinary leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators who inspire the UCalgary campus each day. We are proud to be located in such a vibrant city, and we take every opportunity to support the educational, research, social and cultural needs of this community — as well as our neighbours across the country and around the world.

I have been a part of the UCalgary family for many years, and now I am proud to welcome you to our ever-changing, ever-growing and always impactful community of scholars. Welcome to the University of Calgary!
