University of Calgary #1 in Canada under 50 years of age

For the second consecutive year, the University of Calgary is the top-ranked university in Canada under 50 years of age, according to the 2013 Quacquarelli Symonds Limited (QS) World University Rankings released June 11. The university also maintained its position as second in North America, and moved up to 16th in the world, from 17th in 2012.

“The QS World University rankings recognize the University of Calgary as one of the world’s leading young universities, with an outstanding reputation for teaching, research and community engagement,” says President Elizabeth Cannon. “We are well on our way to achieving our Eyes High vision by our 50th anniversary in 2016.

“It’s a testament to the excellence and commitment of our students, faculty, staff, alumni and broader community that we have moved up in the world rankings of Top 50 Under 50,” added Cannon. “Students and scholars know that if they want to come to a young, dynamic university anywhere in North America, their best choices are University of California, Irvine or the University of Calgary. QS ranks the top universities in the world based on academic and employer reputational surveys, citations per faculty, student-faculty ratio, and the international proportion of the student and faculty populations. The 2013 QS Top 50 Under 50 rankings remove all institutions established before 1964.
