As classrooms, labs, offices and study spaces become busier throughout the semester, flu vaccination remains one of the simplest ways to reduce the risk of illness and help prevent the spread of flu to others.

The University of Calgary's flu shot clinics have seen strong participation in recent years, with more students and employees choosing to get vaccinated on campus. This year’s clinics will once again provide a convenient option for students, postdoctoral scholars, faculty and staff looking to protect themselves during the busy months ahead.

While there is no single way to avoid illness during cold and flu season, Dr. Craig Jenne, PhD’05, infectious disease specialist and professor at the Cumming School of Medicine, says small, everyday habits can make a meaningful difference.

"Doing a series of small, common-sense things can have a huge impact," says Jenne. “Along with getting enough sleep, staying active, eating well and managing stress, vaccination remains an important tool for reducing the impact and spread of respiratory illness.”

Free flu shot clinics will be available at the following locations:

Main campus, MacEwan Student Centre, North Courtyard
October 19-23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Spy Hill campus, Veterinary Learning Commons 201
October 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Foothills campus, Azrieli Atrium (formerly HRIC)
October 29-30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Downtown campus, DTC 234
November 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Getting a flu shot on campus is easy. Visit ucalgary.ca/flu to register for a barcode (or register at the clinic), then book an appointment or walk in with your barcode. The main campus clinic is walk-in only, and wait times are typically short.
