Samin began her journey at the University of Calgary in 2019, joining the Complex Fluid Lab (CFL) group as a PhD student in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering. Her doctoral research focused on the synthesis of smart materials and exploring their properties and applications. She successfully developed magnetic Janus particles using a simple, scalable, and versatile methodology. These particles, with their multifunctional and asymmetric surface structures, were applied in wastewater treatment, magnetorheological fluid generation, and controlled emulsification/demulsification in several studies.
After completing her PhD, Samin continued her research at the University of Calgary, joining the Centre for Advanced Polymers and Nanotechnology as a postdoctoral researcher.
