Our Code of Conduct
Respectful and inclusive environment
It is everyone's right to be treated with dignity and respect. Whether based on race, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or any other personal characteristic, we will not tolerate harassment, derogatory comments, or offensive behavior.
Academic Integrity
We will ensure academic integrity at all times. We will eschew plagiarism, falsification of data, and other forms of academic misconduct. Please follow UofC regulations for further details.
Group Meetings
Group members are expected to participate in regular group meetings that are dedicated to discussing research progress related to group projects and journal club presentations are encouraged. Group members will keep everyone informed of results and challenges so they can provide support when needed. Everyone is encouraged to speak out and ask questions without fear of criticism or mockery – we are all learning!
Welcoming Diverse Applicants
We actively encourage and welcome applications from individuals from diverse communities in order to increase the number of group members from communities that are underrepresented on the basis of race, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or disabilities.
Punctuality and Accountability
All members will honor their time commitments and take responsibility for their actions. Meeting research deadlines and goals requires effective time management.
Confidentiality and Intellectual Property
We will protect the intellectual property rights of ongoing research and maintain confidentiality. We will not share sensitive information without permission.
Conflict Resolution
We will communicate professionally and respectfully when there is conflict or disagreement. If necessary, mediation is an effective way of reaching an amicable resolution. We will look at the problem from the perspective of others, perhaps revealing a better understanding of it.
Take part in research with joy
Rules are necessary, but research should be viewed as a journey of discovery as well. We will establish a culture that fosters mutual respect and prioritizes science so that we can all enjoy discovering something new together.
