Conferral periods

Conferral refers to the exact date you are awarded a designation from UCalgary. There are three conferrals per year. Your conferral date will determine which convocation ceremony you can attend. It will display on your transcript, and the month and year will show on your parchment.

Programs completed: Eligible conferral:
By end of summer term  Fall convocation
By end of fall term  Winter conferral*
By end of winter term  Spring convocation

* There is no convocation ceremony connected with the winter conferral. As an eligible student, you are invited to attend the spring ceremony, or you can request to have your degree mailed.

Check faculty approval

Your faculty will review your application to graduate approximately three weeks prior to the conferral date. You can view the status of your application under "Convocation Status."

Clear any outstanding fees

If you have outstanding fees owing to the university, you're allowed to graduate and attend your convocation ceremony. However, until the account is cleared, you won't be able to receive your degree(s), transcripts, other official degree documentation or be eligible to register in courses.

Please refer to the How to pay your fees web page for information on fee payment options.
