Conferral periods
Conferral refers to the exact date you are awarded a designation from UCalgary. There are three conferrals per year. Your conferral date will determine which convocation ceremony you can attend. It will display on your transcript, and the month and year will show on your parchment. The conferral date applicable to you is based on the completion term you select when applying to graduate in your student centre.
Program completed: | Eligible conferral period: |
By end of spring/summer term | Fall (November) |
By end of fall term | Winter (February)* |
By end of winter term | Spring (June) |
* There is no convocation ceremony connected with the Winter (February) conferral. This cohort is invited to attend the Spring Convocation ceremony.

Your graduation checklist
As you near the end of your program, the following steps will ensure you've completed everything required for you to graduate and convocate.
Verify your program
Connect with your faculty advisor to ensure that your program information (including your major, minor, area of study, specialization, etc.) is correct in your Student Centre. If your information is not correct, you must meet with an advisor—this update cannot be made through your Student Centre.
Also verify with your advisor:
- Degree requirements completed
- Your eligibility to graduate
Apply to graduate
Once you have verified your program information, complete your online application to graduate in your Student Centre. Choose "Apply for Graduation" and fill in the webform.
Submit your attendance notification for convocation
Complete your attendance notification to indicate if you will attend convocation, have your parchment mailed to you, or pick up your parchment at UCalgary.
Check faculty approval
Your faculty will review your application to graduate approximately three weeks prior to the conferral date. You can view the status of your application under "Convocation Status."
Clear any outstanding fees
If you have outstanding fees owing to the university, you're allowed to graduate and attend your convocation ceremony. However, until the account is cleared, you won't be able to receive your parchment(s), transcripts, other official degree documentation or be eligible to register in courses.
Please refer to the How to pay your fees web page for information on fee payment options.
