5.6.4 Clerkship (Year 3) Regulations: Specific Expectations and Requirements

a) A student declared Unsatisfactory overall in one clerkship rotation will be presented to the Clerkship Committee for that rotation for review. The Clerkship Committee will provide a recommendation, which may include, but is not limited to, rewrite of examination only, remedial work plus rewrite of examination, or repeat of rotation including rewrite of examination, to the Associate Dean UME who will determine the final outcome.

b) A student declared Unsatisfactory (in areas of knowledge, skills and/or professional behaviour) in more than one clerkship rotation, any remedial clerkship rotation, elective, repeat clerkship evaluation, and Course 8 Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), shall appear before the SARC for a progression decision.

c) A student who demonstrates a Satisfactory with Performance Deficiency in more than one clerkship rotation shall appear before SARC.

d) A student declared Unsatisfactory on a clerkship rotation and Satisfactory with Performance Deficiency on another clerkship rotation shall appear before SARC.

e) A student who declines to undertake mandated remedial studies for a Performance Deficiency or for a rotation that has been declared Unsatisfactory shall appear before SARC.

f) In Clerkship (Year 3), a student shall be invited to appear before the SARC if the Associate Dean UME finds the student's performance and/or academic progression warrants a review. The reason for this review may include multiple examination deferrals, incomplete courses, or unprofessional behavior. If the student declines to appear before SARC, SARC will render a decision in their absence, based on the documentation (academic or professional) submitted to SARC.
