Welcome to the talented and diverse University of Calgary community of students, faculty, staff and alumni.
We are Canada’s leading next-generation university, and are proud to offer an abundance of academic opportunities, extracurricular activities, and athletics. Our beautiful campus in northwest Calgary has state-of-the art facilities like the Outdoor Centre, Olympic Oval, Taylor Family Digital Library, and the award-winning Energy, Environment, Experiential Learning building; there are also four satellite campuses: Downtown, Foothills, Spy Hill and the University of Calgary in Qatar.
We are committed to providing a diverse environment that inspires discovery, creativity and innovation. At the start of the year, students are encouraged to get involved in campus activities, to participate in Orientation Week and the Common Reading Program, to embrace the myriad of leadership opportunities available, and to join in community support activities like the United Way Campaign.
You are here to build the foundation for the rest of your life, and we are committed to providing unique and challenging opportunities for you that are informed by rigorous scholarship, ethical leadership, and engaged citizenship. Students are also encouraged to take advantage of programs at the University of Calgary International (UCI) to study, volunteer or work overseas and broaden your perspective, adding depth and breadth to the teaching, learning and research on our campus.
The University of Calgary has set a goal – called Eyes High – which aims to capture and reflect Calgary’s energy, ambition and outlook, and defines our commitment to become one of Canada’s top five research universities by our 50th anniversary in 2016. It is a very exciting time to be at the university, and there is palpable energy on campus as we approach our milestone anniversary.
This past year, the University of Calgary was named the number one university in Canada under the age of 50 and, in recognition of our effort to incorporate sustainable practice across our institution, was awarded a STARS Gold Rating – the highest rating ever received by a Canadian university. We are moving forward, building strong ties to our surrounding community and enriching our teaching and learning environment through the addition of approximately 50 new faculty and 60 post-doctoral scholars, as well as the construction of the new Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning.
The University of Calgary, like our students, is making the most of the opportunities presented: maximizing our research expertise, exercising our leadership potential, and engaging with the enterprising city we call home.
Welcome to the University of Calgary!
