Introduction to Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
Functional definitions of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Understanding/predicting the behaviour of nanomaterials. Investigation of nanomaterials whose properties depend on size. Exploration of a building up approach to design and fabrication of functional nanomaterials. Examination of applications of nanoscience and nanotechnology in society. Course Hours:H(3-0) Prerequisite(s): One of Mathematics 253or 263or283orApplied Mathematics 219; and one of Geology 203orPhysics 223or255orBiology 231and233orChemistry 201and203or213. Notes: Open only to declared Nanoscience Concentrators or Minors, or by consent of the Program Director. Students who have completed Mathematics 249or251or281 may substitute Mathematics 211or213 for Mathematics 253or 263or283.
The fundamental understanding of Nanoscience gained in Nanoscience 301 will be extended and applied to designing experiments and simulations to test hypotheses regarding Nanoscience. Course Hours:H(3-0) Prerequisite(s):Nanoscience 301 Notes: Open only to declared Nanoscience Concentrators or Minors, or by consent of the Program Director
This lab/tutorial course will place the students in a nanotechnology setting. Students will design and execute self-directed projects and will present results to their peers. Course Hours:F(1-6) Prerequisite(s):Nanoscience 401. Notes: Open only to declared Nanoscience Minors, or by consent of the Program Director.
Integration of Nanotechnology and Biology for Medical Applications
The applications of nanotechnology in drug delivery and medical imaging will be explored. Course Hours:H(3-3) Prerequisite(s):Nanoscience 301. Notes: Open only to declared Nanoscience Concentrators or Minors, or by consent of the Program Director.
Special Problems in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
Lectures, seminars, term papers and training in theoretical and/or laboratory methods. Notes: Open only to declared Nanoscience Concentrators or Minors, or by consent of the Program Director. MAY BE REPEATED FOR CREDIT
