Introduction
The Civil Engineering Graduate Society (CEGS) is a student-led organization representing all civil engineering graduate students at the University of Calgary. Established in 2008, CEGS is recognized as a Departmental Graduate Association (DGA) by the Schulich School of Engineering, the Civil Engineering Department, and the Graduate Students' Association (GSA). Our primary goals are to:
- Provide services and organize events that support graduate student success.
- Create networking opportunities among students, faculty, and industry professionals.
- Collaborate with other Departmental Graduate Associations to host joint events that enrich the University of Calgary’s graduate community.

The Civil Engineering Graduate Society (CEGS) welcomes you to the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Calgary! Our mission is to enhance the graduate student experience by fostering strong connections between students and the department.
By collaborating closely with the department, we aim to enrich your academic and research journey. Additionally, we organize a variety of social and professional events throughout the year to address the needs of civil engineering graduate students.

Welcome Statement from the Department
Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at the Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary. Civil Engineers play an integral part in any society, designing, constructing and maintaining buildings, bridges, transportation networks, dams, water treatment plants and other infrastructures. Today’s civil engineers are leading the path in ensuring that development happens in a sustainable way while minimizing impact on the environment. The Department of Civil Engineering plays a very important role in advancing research and education in Canada and around the world. Our professors and students conduct world class research in areas such as Structures, Transportation, Water Resources, Environmental, Geotechnical, Materials, Project Management and others. Equipped with world class laboratory facilities, the Department offers several graduate programs such as Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Science and Master of Engineering to suit the career aspirations of different students. We are changing the world not only through our research but also by training superb graduate students and post-docs who go out and make immense contributions to the profession. Our students go on to be leaders in academia, research and in practice.
We have a very welcoming department with helpful staff and faculty and we strive to help you pursue your fullest potential. As a graduate student, you are an integral part of the department and the Schulich School of Engineering. The School and CEGS puts forth a number of activities for graduate students.
