Elder Rosemary Crowshoe

Elder Rosemary Crowshoe

Visionary Elder whose significant contributions and tireless dedication to Indigenous community engagement, reconciliation, and education have significantly enriched our university and the broader community.

Elder Rosemary Crowshoe is Piikani born and raised. She retired from her 20-year career as an accountant to continue her work in preserving the Blackfoot culture. Crowshoe is an alumna of the University of Lethbridge.

Her identity is embedded in traditional Blackfoot teachings that she acquired from her great grandmothers, grandmother, and mother. These teachings have helped to raise her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Crowshoe was the recipient of The Queens II Platinum Jubilee Medal, and in June 2022 appointed the Order of Canada for her enduring commitment to the preservation of Blackfoot culture and reconciliation.  She is an advisor on many committees with local, national and provincial scopes focusing on work with Elders and youth. Crowshoe is also an Elder in the Elders’ Knowledge Circle and works closely with the United Way of Calgary and Area.
