Biography
I graduated from William Aberhart High School in Calgary, AB. In high school I was an editor for the yearbook club and an active member of the leadership team. I was the the first student in ten years to complete the Registered Apprenticeship Program, this was pivotal in promoting the Unique Pathways within my school community. Following my completion of this program I was able to guide other students to complete the program and become a role model for young women in the trades. I volunteered at my martial arts studio regularly as a junior instructor, coached wrestling at my junior high school and was a youth volunteer at the Calgary Public Library. Throughout my high school career I felt the most fulfilled when I was giving back to my community. Promoting the Unique Pathways program within my school was pivotal as I was helping other students create a plan for after they graduated. When volunteering at my martial arts studio and coaching wrestling I was able to watch young students embrace grow into amazing individuals and I was able to support their personal development as they gained new skills.
What drew me to UCalgary's engineering program was the versatility of the program. The common first year offered the chance to gain an appreciation for the different engineering disciplines offered at the university. The university is also well known for their technical engineering teams, specifically the Solar Car Team. I am most looking forward to the gaining hands-on experience through my design classes and through the technical teams offered at the university. I would love to gain more knowledge in the field of sustainable energy and the impacts we can have on our energy production and sustainability goals. This interest has led me to join the Solar Car Team at UCalgary. As the Electrical Manager for the Solar Car Team I hope to work throughout my undergrad towards making advancements in sustainable energy technology and inspire others to do so as well.
I hope to work in the field of sustainable energy development. After graduation I would love to gain hands-on experience by working on build sites and constantly gaining more knowledge in the constantly evolving industry of renewable energy. I hope that with my degree in engineering I can help work towards a sustainable solution to bring safe drinking water and access to electricity to children across Canada. I am passionate about focusing on sustainable practices in the field of engineering and concentrating on the impacts they can have on the environment and marginalized communities.
As VP Internal for UCalgary's Habitat for Humanity chapter I aim to promote their vision of providing housing as everyone deserves a home and a safe place to live.
