The Canadian Academy of Engineering

The Nation Building Scholarships Series has been established by the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) in recognition of the important role to be played by engineers in the building of our nation given the technical challenges created by the geographical extent of the country, its low population density, its northern climate, and the world’s longest coastline on 3 oceans. This scholarship series is sponsored by the CAE, through the generous support from the CAE members and the CAE Board.

The scholarship for Oceans is the third scholarship of the series, established specifically to encourage and recognize undergraduate students who, in addition to having a strong academic background, have a passion for engineering for the oceans and display evidence of volunteer activities, work experience and/or community leadership.  Applicants will be judged on academic and leadership achievements, answers provided in the application form and intent to pursue an engineering career that helps improve the stewardship of Canada’s ocean resources, in terms of, but not limited to, clean shipping, shipbuilding, renewable ocean energy, remote ocean sensing, improved environmental performance and efficiency of offshore oil and gas operations,  seabed mining, coastal zone management, operations in harsh ocean environments, improved aquaculture and fish harvesting technologies, and advanced marine communications and navigation.
