"The application of forensic medical knowledge and appropriate needs to living patients in the emergency department, noting that most trauma patients are victims of malice and intent at the hands of assailants. The need to add forensic aspects of emergency medicine to the already bulging portfolio of activity is sometimes overlooked. There is a recognised phenomenon among clinicians to deny the possibility of injuries being the result of violence (Olshaker, Jackson, & Smock, 2000).
