Winfrey,
M., & Smith, A.R. (1999).The suspiciousness |
factor:
Critical care nursing and forensics.

database:

- Forensic
nursing has emerged as a nursing specialty that
"focuses on the forensic aspects of health
care combined with the biopsychosocial education
of the registered nurse in the scientific investigation
and treatment of trauma, and/ or death victims and
perpetrators of violence, criminal activity, and
traumatic accidents" (IAFN, 1997, p. 2; cited
in Winfrey & Smith, 1999).
- As nursing
education moved into the university, the intellectual
basis of the discipline was examined. Where were
the intellectual foundations of nursing located?
As a practice discipline, focus centered on what
nurses do when caring for patients (Winfrey &
Smith, 1999).

autopsies
to supplement training for residents. Archives
of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, 123(5),

- Forensic
autopsies provide good training material for aspects
of pathology that are important, but for which many
residency programs offer minimal instruction. The
pathology of blunt and sharp force injuries, gunshot
wounds, traumatic neuropathology, sudden infant
death syndrome, asphyxia, and toxicology are just
a few of the topics that can be covered in viewing
the autopsy.
