Winfrey, M., & Smith, A.R. (1999).The suspiciousness

factor: Critical care nursing and forensics.
Critical Care Nursing Quarterly, 22(1), 1-7. Retrieved December 12, 2002, from Academic Search Premier database: http://search.epnet.com/direct.asp?an=6822489&db=aph

  • Forensic nursing has emerged as a nursing specialty that "focuses on the forensic aspects of health care combined with the biopsychosocial education of the registered nurse in the scientific investigation and treatment of trauma, and/ or death victims and perpetrators of violence, criminal activity, and traumatic accidents" (IAFN, 1997, p. 2; cited in Winfrey & Smith, 1999).

  • As nursing education moved into the university, the intellectual basis of the discipline was examined. Where were the intellectual foundations of nursing located? As a practice discipline, focus centered on what nurses do when caring for patients (Winfrey & Smith, 1999).
