Hot Works and Dust Program


The university has developed and implemented a comprehensive Hot Work and Dust Program to ensure all work on campus that generates heat or smoke is properly supervised to prevent false fire alarms and unnecessary business interruptions.

Persons responsible for causing fire alarms and subsequent business interruptions to the University of Calgary community by failing to abide by university policies and procedures will be invoiced in the amount of $1500. Prime Contractors are responsible for the actions of any sub-contractors in their employ.

Permit required for conducting hot work or hot work that generates dust.

Permit required for conducting dust producing work only.

Smudging or other ceremonies can be done in locations that are pre-approved and the list can be found at this site and these locations do not need a permit issued.

Smudging or other ceremonies can sometimes be done in alternative locations by using the location permit. Life Safety may need to disable fire alarm systems and the process may take several days for approval.
