Requirements for admission to the Certificate include:
a) A four-year baccalaureate degree in Education or an equivalent degree from a recognized institution, with a grade point average of at least 3.00 or equivalent. See the Faculty of Graduate Studies’ International Admission Requirements webpage at ucalgary.ca/future-students/graduate/international for specific country requirements.
b) A letter from an evaluator at Alberta Education’s Teaching Excellence and Certification. For further information, go to alberta.ca/teaching-in-alberta.aspx.
c) For applicants required to present proficiency in English, a minimum TOEFL (Internet-based) score of 97, an IELTS overall band score of 7.0 or a CAEL overall score of 70 (with no section less than 70). This requirement can also be met by completing the Academic Communication Certificate with a minimum grade of "A-" in each course.
The test must have been taken within the last two years. When requesting that official TOEFL test scores are forwarded to the University of Calgary, please indicate institution code 0813.
d) One official transcript from all post-secondary institutions attended.
e) A written 300-word statement of intent that includes answers to the following questions:
- Please identify your reasons for applying to the Bridge to Teaching program.
- In what way is this program related to your desired career path or employment objectives?
f) Two references – References are submitted directly through the online application system.
g) A successful interview with the Academic Co-ordinator for Bridge to Teaching.
