University of Calgary Calendar 2023-2024 Faculty of Social Work 3. Faculty Regulations 3.2 Registration 3.2.6 Leave of Absence (LOA)
3.2.6 Leave of Absence (LOA)

A student who is unable to be academically active for a period of more than 12 months may be eligible for a leave of absence. Leaves of absence are granted under exceptional circumstances for reasons including, but not limited to, bereavement, care-giving or parental responsibilities, medical requirements, physical or mental wellbeing, military service or political service. The student must obtain approval from the Faculty before the 12 month period has lapsed.

Students on an approved leave of absence will be required to comply with any regulations and curriculum changes that may have come into effect during their absence. The Faculty will add a comment to the student information system indicating the approval, with the date of return, and provide a written confirmation to the student.

Students who are unable to follow their curriculum plan should contact Student Services to discuss their options.

For more information see B.12 Residency Requirements, Letters of Permission and Leaves of Absence.
