Functional definitions of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Understanding/predicting the behaviour of nanomaterials. Investigation of nanomaterials whose properties depend on size. Exploration of a building up approach to design and fabrication of functional nanomaterials. Examination of applications of nanoscience and nanotechnology in society.

An introduction to nanofabrication processes to obtain nanodevices based on thin films, nanotubes, nanowires, and / or two-dimensional materials such as graphene. The working principles, functioning, applications, and reliance on surface properties of these nanodevices will be discussed. Devices discussed can include solar cells, nanotransistors, nanotribology, photonic crystals.
