Effective Fall of 2011, the Faculty of Education, in collaboration with the Faculties of Arts, Kinesiology, and Science, will initiate a five-year Concurrent (Direct Entry) Program. Upon completion students will graduate with two degrees, a Bachelors degree in their chosen academic field and a Bachelor of Education.

The Combined Degree with a BEd is being phased out, and as of Fall 2012 is not available for admission.

Concurrent Degrees

In cooperation with other Faculties and Departments, the Faculty of Education offers a number of five-year concurrent degree programs. These programs require students to complete three years of study with the cooperating unit and two years with the Faculty of Education. It is expected that students will study full-time for five consecutive years.

Graduate work leading to the Master of Education degree (MEd), Master of Continuing Education (MCE), Master of Counselling (MC), Master of Arts (MA), and to the Master of Science (MSc) is offered under the administration of the Faculty of Graduate Studies in the following:

The Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies Pan Canadian graduate program (through the Graduate Division of Educational Research) is offered through distance delivery and participation in Summer Institutes at the University of Calgary. The Master of Continuing Education program (through the Graduate Division of Educational Research) is offered through distance delivery and participation in on-campus institutes. For further details, refer to the Faculty of Graduate Studies Calendar.

Diplomas and Certificates

Professional Diploma and Certificate Programs and Post Degree Continuous Learning Diploma and Certificate Programs in Education

The Faculty of Education sponsors a number of post-degree programs leading to the Diploma or Certificate of the Faculty of Education. These diploma and certificate programs provide for:

(a) Advanced study in an area in which a student has specialized undergraduate preparation; and

(b) Study in a new field, such as a second teaching specialization, in which a student has minimal undergraduate preparation.
