A survey of major issues in the fine arts. An overview of the interactions among the arts; the arts and society; an introduction to criticism and aesthetics; technical aspects of the individual arts.

This course focuses on the practices and processes of creativity. As such, attendance at arts events is mandatory. In all cases, the instructor will arrange to find discounted ticket pricing and will select events that are as accessible as possible.
Current thinking tells us that creativity may well be the most important human element for our future. From the economy to the environment from politics to entertainment creativity is an endlessly renewable resource that offers benefits for all citizens. As such, students from across all disciplines are invited to explore the ways in which creativity can help to enrich their public and private lives.
Students who are unable to attend off campus arts events should not enrol in this course.

Story is an exciting, creative and dynamic form of human expression. This course seeks to engage with and share this energy with students from across departments and disciplines. As a universal form of human expression, story makes room for all types of students.
