The discipline of Kinesiology involves the study of human movement from many theoretical and applied perspectives, including structural, functional, mechanical, historical, psychological, and sociological. Approximately 500 undergraduate and 70 graduate students are enrolled annually in the Faculty of Kinesiology.

The General program (BKin or BSc) offers flexibility to choose courses from Kinesiology and other Faculties to tailor programs to individual needs and interests. It is the most flexible of all Kinesiology majors. A combined Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Kinesiology degree program is offered with the Haskayne School of Business. A combined Bachelor of Kinesiology/Bachelor of Nursing degree program is offered with the Faculty of Nursing.

The Athletic Therapy program (BKin) is a joint offering with Mount Royal College, which provides professional training in Athletic Therapy, including a high-quality experiential component during a full year on the Mount Royal College campus. Ten students per year will be admitted to the major after two years of preparatory course work that includes specified course requirements.

Biomechanics (BKin or BSc) focuses on the mechanics of human movement with an emphasis on biomedical and sports applications, through course work in Kinesiology, Mathematics, and Engineering.

Exercise and Health Physiology (BKin or BSc) builds upon fundamental knowledge in human movement and functioning, focusing on the effects of lifestyle, exercise, and diet on the human body.

Mind Sciences in Kinesiology (BKin or BSc) provides a comprehensive education in the areas of behavioural neurosciences, cognition and neuro-motor control, and personality and social psychology.

Pedagogy (BKin) combines the study of Elementary and Secondary School Physical Education. Teaching certification must be obtained from the Faculty of Education either after completion of the BKin (Pedagogy) degree, or through the combined degree program with Pedagogy and Education.

The BA Dance degree is offered as a four-year collaborative program with the Faculty of Fine Arts.

The curriculum in the Faculty of Kinesiology introduces students to new and demanding thought processes and learning experiences that promote a lifelong desire for learning and a healthy lifestyle. It provides an opportunity for students to acquire advanced levels of knowledge in specific aspects related to health, movement, exercise, and sport. Laboratory, professional, and experiential courses are designed to facilitate the transition to workplace and/or graduate education and to assimilate knowledge outside of the field of Kinesiology.

The curriculum will provide students with the ability to synthesize knowledge and experience related specifically to applications of health, movement, exercise, and sport; understand the effects of movement, exercise, and sport on fitness and health; communicate information effectively; and demonstrate critical and creative thinking skills.

Graduates of Kinesiology are qualified for positions of leadership in community or corporate wellness programs; sport management and promotion; fitness promotion, assessment, and prescription; coaching and training amateur athletes; therapeutic and rehabilitative programs; ergonomic assessments; exercise therapy; and other professional opportunities through sport and physical activity. Those students intending to teach in the school systems must enroll in the Faculty of Education after completion of Kinesiology degree requirements.

The Faculty services the Athletic and Campus Recreation programs of the University. The physical complex provides a world-class environment for study and research. Students have use of the Olympic-sized pool and diving tower, the Jack Simpson triple gymnasium, a 400 m speed skating surface, ice hockey and figure skating surfaces, a specialized gymnastics gym, fitness centre, a unique climbing room, squash and racquetball courts, dance studios, and many other teaching and recreational facilities.
