Requirements
Bachelor of Kinesiology and Bachelor of Science Programs | 1. Attainment of at least a 2.00 grade point average over the entire program, as outlined below. 2. Attainment of at least a 2.00 grade point average in all Faculty of Kinesiology courses. 3. No more than the equivalent of two full course "D" or "D+" grades in core course requirements. 4. No more than the equivalent of four full course "D" or "D+" grades throughout the entire program. 5. No "F" grades will be acceptable towards the BKin or BSc degree. A course normally may be repeated only once. |
Kinesiology Core Courses | Within the 20 full-course Bachelor of Kinesiology or Bachelor of Science degree, all students must complete the following core courses (7.5 full-course equivalents).

Biology 231 7.5 Kinesiology 473 Students are expected to register for a selected number of 200-level requirements (chosen from Biology 231, Kinesiology 201, 203, 211, 213, 243, 245, 251, 253, 261, or 263) in Year 1, as well as some of the 200-level requirements for their chosen major. Since this entails more than five full-course equivalents, students are expected to complete these 200-level courses over several years and will be able to tailor their registrations to suit individual circumstances. All students must complete at least five full-course equivalents from outside the Faculty of Kinesiology, including at least two full-course equivalents at the Senior level. In addition to the core, each major requires the specific courses outlined below. |
Additional Requirements for Bachelor of Science Programs | To meet BSc degree requirements, at least 21 half-course science equivalents must be completed. These include all courses offered by the Faculty of Science, courses listed by the Faculty of Science as acceptable components in their BSc programs (see Faculty of Science - Faculty Regulations - Programs with a Major Field), Area III courses (see Faculty of Social Sciences - Area Table), and the following Kinesiology courses: 237, 251, 261, 263, 351, 353, 355, 363, 367, 371, 375, 381, 393, 395, 433, 437, 451, 463, 465, 466, 469, 473, 475, 479, 485, 490, 493, and 495. |

Bachelor of Kinesiology (Athletic Therapy)
Admission | Applicants to the Athletic Therapy Major will enter the program at the third year level after successful completion of listed prerequisites, and selection using quantitative criteria. Admission to the major is limited to ten students each year. Applicants from outside Kinesiology must also meet the admission criteria for admission to the Faculty. Since five full-course equivalents of this degree are Mount Royal College courses, a maximum of five additional full-course equivalents of transfer credit may be counted towards the degree (see "Transfer of Credit from Other Institutions"). The following requirements must be met and will be used as criteria in determining the most suitable candidates for admission and registration in the program: 1. Successful completion of eight or more full-course equivalents. The last four full-course equivalents must have been completed at the University of Calgary. 2. A minimum GPA of 3.00 over the most recent course work to a maximum of five full-course equivalents (University of Calgary courses and/or transferable courses taken at other institutions). All grades within a session will be included except where the number of courses taken within a session exceeds that required to fulfill (to a maximum of) five full-course equivalents, in which case the highest grades will be used. 3. Successful completion of the following required courses, or equivalents: (a) Kinesiology 261 with a minimum grade of "C+" (b) Zoology 361 and 363 with a minimum grade of "C" (c) Kinesiology 203 (d) Kinesiology 263 (e) Kinesiology 330 (f) Kinesiology 371 with a minimum grade of "B" 4. Completion of a structured Letter of Intent (to be used in the event of a tie). After meeting the above criteria, students will be ranked according to their GPA calculated over their last five full-course equivalents. |

Registration | Emergency Medical Responder certification must be completed prior to the start of Mount Royal College course work. Students will be responsible for obtaining training and certification. Athletic Therapy 471 will normally be offered at the end of Summer Session and must be completed prior to commencement of the Mount Royal College course work. Athletic Therapy 491 is taken after Mount Royal College course work is successfully completed. The course begins prior to the start of Fall Session (usually the third week of August). |
Bachelor of Kinesiology or Bachelor of Science (Biomechanics)
Admission | Students should refer to the Standard Admission requirements listed in the Academic Regulations section of this Calendar. Note that Pure Mathematics 30 with a grade of 70% or above and Mathematics 31 are required for admission. Physics 30 is recommended, but will not be counted in the calculation of the senior matriculation average. Applicants who do not present Physics 30 will be required to complete Physics 211 in the first year of their program. The Physics requirement must be completed before students are permitted to register for Engineering courses. |

Bachelor of Kinesiology (Pedagogy)
Admission | Applicants to the Pedagogy Major will enter this program at the second year level after successful completion of listed prerequisites. The number of spaces in second year is limited to 30 students. First year students will normally enter the General Major in the Faculty of Kinesiology in order to complete prerequisites. Applicants from outside Kinesiology must also meet the admission criteria for admission to the Faculty. The following requirements must be met and will be used as criteria in determining the most suitable candidates for admission and registration in the program. 1. Successful completion of four or more full-course equivalents with a GPA of at least 2.70 over the most recent course work to a maximum of five full-course equivalents (University of Calgary courses and/or transferable courses taken at other institutions). All grades within a session will be included except where the number of courses taken within a session exceeds that required to fulfill (to a maximum of) five full-course equivalents, in which case the highest grades will be used. In the event there are more qualified applicants than positions available, students will be admitted in descending GPA order. 2. Successful completion of Kinesiology 211 and 213 with a combined minimum GPA of 2.85. 3. Completion of Kinesiology 201 is highly recommended, and is required for registration in Physical Education 321. 4. Prior to enrollment in any practicum courses, students must consult with the Pedagogy Coordinator in order to obtain required documentation to comply with the legal requirements for placement in schools. |

Bachelor of Kinesiology Honours or Bachelor of Science Honours
Honours programs are offered in all majors. |
Admission
Applicants to an Honours program must have completed at least 10 and no more than 15 full-course equivalents, and have achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 over these courses (with a minimum GPA of 3.30 in all Kinesiology courses). These grade point averages must be maintained in order to retain Honours standing. Students are strongly encouraged to consult with the Faculty's Student Programs Office prior to application. |
Requirements
Enrollment in Kinesiology 490 (Interpretation of Research and Research Project) is added to the course requirements for each major in an Honours program. Enrollment in Kinesiology 490 is limited to 20 students. Registration in Kinesiology 490 is contingent on the student having made suitable arrangements with an eligible thesis supervisor, as well as the availability of the resources (laboratory space, equipment, etc.) needed to complete the thesis. To graduate, a student will be required to present a minimum GPA of 3.30 over the entire program and an average of at least 3.30 in all courses offered by the Faculty of Kinesiology. | |
1. To remain in an Honours program a student must maintain a GPA of at least 3.30 in each academic year. The following circumstances will normally result in a student being required to withdraw from the Honours program: (a) Any "F" grades obtained in the final two years of the program. (b) The accumulation of more than two "D" or "D+" grades throughout the program. 2. Honours students must submit a written report annually to the Associate Dean (Academic) by October 15. 3. Honours students must complete a minimum of 7.5 full-course equivalents at the senior level. |
Combined BComm/BKin (General) Program
Introduction | The Faculty of Kinesiology with the Haskayne School of Business offers a five-year combined Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Kinesiology (General) degree program. The program requires careful selection of courses to complete all requirements of the two Faculties. Interested students are urged to contact the Student Programs Office of Kinesiology and the Assistant Dean (Undergraduate) of the Haskayne School of Business for advice in choosing their first-year courses. |
Admission | Applicants to the BComm/BKin program must satisfy the admission requirements of both Faculties and will normally first enter the Faculty of Kinesiology. Admission to Kinesiology will be based on the admission requirements previously outlined. At the end of the second year of studies, students should apply to the Haskayne School of Business, to pursue the combined degree program. At the point of admission to the combined degree program, students will be administered by the Haskayne School of Business, which is a quota restricted faculty. Therefore, admission and program requirements for the BComm program also apply to students pursuing the combined degree program. |

Once accepted to the combined program, students may elect to remain in it or switch to either of the two separate degree programs, as long as the requirements of each Faculty continue to be met. Failure to meet requirements will result in a student being required to withdraw from the combined or separate programs. Students must satisfy the graduation requirements of both Faculties. Combined BKin (General)/BN Program
Introduction | The Faculty of Kinesiology with the Faculty of Nursing offers a five-year combined Bachelor of Kinesiology (General)/Bachelor of Nursing degree program. The program requires careful selection of courses to complete all requirements of the two Faculties. Interested students are urged to contact the Student Programs Office in Kinesiology and the Student Affairs Office in Nursing for advice in choosing their first-year courses. |
Admission | Applicants to the combined BKin/BN program must satisfy the admission requirements of both Faculties and will normally first enter the Faculty of Kinesiology. Admission to Kinesiology will be based on the admission requirements previously outlined. After successful completion of at least eight half-course equivalents, including Biology 231 and Kinesiology 261, students should apply to the Faculty of Nursing to pursue the combined degree program. At the point of admission to the combined degree program, students will be administered by the Faculty of Nursing. Therefore, entrants into the combined program must meet the transfer admission criteria that apply to the Bachelor of Nursing Regular Track program. |

Introduction | The Faculty of Kinesiology with the Faculty of Education offers a five-year combined Bachelor of Kinesiology (Pedagogy)/Bachelor of Education (Master of Teaching Program) in Physical Education. |
Admission | Applicants to the BKin/BEd (Master of Teaching Program) will be admitted after successful completion of listed prerequisites and selection using both qualitative and quantitative criteria. The number of spaces per year is limited to 30 students. The following requirements must be met and will be used as criteria in determining the most suitable candidates for admission and registration in the combined degree program. 1. Only Pedagogy Majors in the Faculty of Kinesiology who have completed eight full-course equivalents including Kinesiology 391 (Practicum I) and 2.5 full-course equivalents specific to the Pedagogy Major are eligible to apply. 2. Applicants must present the following: (a) A minimum GPA of 3.00 (see Item 3). (b) A Faculty of Education Statement in support of the application (a structured resume which includes the names of three referees). (c) Satisfactory completion of the Effective Writing Requirement. 3. Admission to the combined degree program will be determined on the basis of the GPA calculated over the most recent course work to a maximum of five full-course equivalents (University of Calgary courses and/or transferable courses taken at other institutions). All grades within a session will be included except where the number of courses taken within a session exceeds that required to fulfill (to a maximum of) five full-course equivalents, in which case the highest grades will be used. 4. Admission to the combined degree program is on a competitive basis and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. |

Regulations | Once accepted into the combined degree program, students have three years to commence the Faculty of Education component of the program. Students not registering for the Faculty of Education component within that time will be considered to have left the combined degree program and will be considered as Bachelor of Kinesiology students. Any students leaving the combined degree program will revert to enrollment in the Faculty of Kinesiology only and will be responsible for all requirements of that Faculty. Students must declare their intention to register in the Faculty of Education by the preceding March 15. Before entering the combined degree program, students are urged to obtain current CPR Certification (Basic Rescuer Certificate) and a current First Aid Certificate. Students are responsible for obtaining training and certification. |
