UCalgary Data Domains

Data domains are high-level categorizations and logical groupings of university data based on shared attributes, characteristics, or purposes. This categorization helps in efficiently managing, discovering, and accessing relevant data by providing a structured and coherent framework.

Academic Domain

Academic data domain captures data about credentials and curricula, and, academic governance structure (e.g., data elements related to faculty, departments, BoG, GFC).


Advancement Domain

Advancement data domain captures data about the following areas: services such as fundraising; alumni engagement; community engagement such as donors and key stakeholders; and, development.


Facilities Domain

Facilities data domain captures data about the following areas: facilities development data on architecture, engineering, project management, real estate and records; and, facilities maintenance data on buildings/physical assets operations and maintenance, including caretaking, grounds, energy and utilities, and fleet management.


Financial Domain

Financial data domain captures financial data about the following areas:  financial services, financial operations, financial reporting, research accounting, finance services, supply chain management, treasury and investment.


Human Resources Domain

Human Resources data domain captures data about the following areas:  human resources services; employee life-cycle; operational services (e.g., recruiting, onboarding/offboarding, benefits, performance management, merit, tenure, promotion, learning and development); talent management; and staff wellness.


Research Operations Domain

Research Operations data domain captures data related to research administration at the university.


Services and Administration Domain

Services and Administration data domain is meant to capture cross-university support functions.


Student Domain

Student data domain captures data about each student (student record level) related to degree credit and non degree credit activities.
