You’re invited: Haskayne capital expansion project open house
A bold and welcoming new home for the Haskayne School of Business is taking shape and the campus community is invited to come see the final plans and renderings for Haskayne’s Capital Expansion Project. Construction of the new four-storey, 10,000-square-metre Mathison Hall is slated to begin in May 2020 with a planned opening in 2022.
Mathison Hall will be a state-of-the-art and student-centred learning environment that will be a catalyst of the growth of the Haskayne School of Business as a top-tier Canadian business school. The project was designed by Diamond and Schmitt Architects Incorporated and Gibbs Gage Architects.
Between the new building and renovations to Scurfield Hall, the project aims to create a new home for students while on campus with features including a dozen new classrooms, student success areas, a learning commons, student meeting rooms, retail food, graduate students' lounge and a 300-person events space.
- What and when: Open house for the campus community Feb. 4, 2 to 4 p.m.
- Where: BMO Financial Group Forum, Scurfield Hall
Sustainable design has been integral throughout the project, which will be constructed to target LEED Platinum certification. From the outset, the project designed the building to look to natural environmental influences in order to be among the most energy efficient buildings on campus. The $90-million project was announced in June 2018.
A gift of $20 million from Calgary business leader Ronald P. Mathison, chairman of MATCO Investments Ltd. to fund a second building for the business school adjacent to Scurfield Hall, is part of Energize: The Campaign for Eyes High, UCalgary’s transformative fundraising initiative. Fueled by the generosity of UCalgary’s friends and supporters, we are igniting discovery, creativity and innovation to make lasting positive change at the University of Calgary, in our city and beyond.
