UCalgary in top 200 world universities
The Shanghai Ranking Consultancy released its Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2018 this month, and the University of Calgary maintained its world rank in the 151-200 category in 2018 for the second year in a row. Nationally, the university placed in the 7-9 category, just outside the Top 5. The University of Calgary continues to close the gap between its research performance and that of Top 5 universities in Canada.
ARWU uses six objective indicators (in four categories) to rank world universities, including the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, number of highly cited researchers selected by Clarivate Analytics, number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science, number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index – Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, and per capita performance of a university. More than 1,200 universities are ranked by ARWU every year and the best 500 are published.
