Thinking of you: Breaking through isolation

Nursing alumna’s generous gesture of handwritten birthday cards brings meaning and joy to isolated seniors

Imagine celebrating a birthday without friends and family; without even a birthday card or greeting. Sadly, this is the reality for many isolated seniors living in Calgary. Through her volunteer work with the Calgary Seniors’ Resources Society, nursing alumna Hafsah Syed, BN ’21, shares her passion for her community by connecting with those that need it most. A simple act of sending a birthday card — a message that someone cares — can make a significant and meaningful difference to seniors living in solitude.
