Protect yourself from fraud
Scammers are getting more and more creative and it’s becoming harder to tell which calls are legitimate and which are not.
One of our own UCalgary students received a call from who he thought was the Government of Canada claiming he had been hacked and had to provide his social insurance number (SIN) as well as his banking information to secure his SIN. In a fluster, he gave the caller the requested information.
A few days later he found out that the call was in fact fraudulent, but his SIN was already compromised and he turned to the university for help.
