Now Innovating: Cybersecurity in the age of AI and quantum applications

A conversation with Dr. Hadis Karimipour, PhD, Associate Professor, Schulich School of Engineering

podcast

In this episode of Now Innovating, a research-to-impact series at the University of Calgary, we are exploring cybersecurity with Dr. Hadis Karimipour, PhD, a Canada Research Chair in Secure and Resilient Cyber-physical Systems and an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Software Engineering, Schulich School of Engineering.

We discuss cyber threats to critical infrastructure such as utility centres, transportation systems and hospital networks, and how her research is using AI and quantum applications to detect and prevent these cyber-attacks.

We also talk about the dark web, where these cyber threats come from and the importance of advancing global policy in cybersecurity.

Karimipour was recently awarded up to $500,000 in funding from the National Cybersecurity Consortium under the Cyber Security Innovation Network program for Frontier Quantum-AI Cyber Defense: Pioneering Unprecedented Security Measures for Critical Infrastructure.

Now Innovating shares the stories of UCalgary researchers who have moved their discoveries forward and their innovation journeys to implementation and creating impact. Episodes are released monthly and are captioned and transcribed on YouTube. Episodes are also available as a podcast on platforms such as Apple PodcastsYouTube MusicSpotify and more. Explore the series.
