How well do you know UCalgary? Test your knowledge on Giving Day

Rex joins alum Jessica Zutz to quiz students

What do David Beckham’s shoes and CPAP machines have to do with the University of Calgary? What was the university’s first faculty, or the name of UCalgary's first computer course?

These were some of the questions asked by alum Jessica Zutz, BA'12, BSc'12, as she set out to determine how much students actually know about UCalgary’s history ahead of Giving Day 2026.

By asking questions about UCalgary’s past, whether talking about innovation, research, education or sport, Zutz painted a picture of an impactful and often surprising history, a legacy that President Ed McCauley said could not have been possible without “donor and community support.”

And the best way to keep that momentum going, according to McCauley, is to “make a gift on Giving Day.”

To find information on how to make a gift in support of students, programs, sport or research at UCalgary, continue reading below the video.

For more than 60 years, donors have supported UCalgary talent, innovation and impact. Now it’s your turn! Make your gift before midnight tonight to be a part of UCalgary Giving Day.

Did you know that funds with 20 faculty and staff donors receive a $2,500 bonus — and can receive a second $2,500 bonus when they reach 40 donors? Check out the leaderboards to see which funds are close to hitting that milestone. Your gift of $25 could unlock 100 times that amount!
