Holiday closure and COVID travel restrictions

Message to the campus community

In light of the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant of COVID-19, University of Calgary leadership is encouraging increased caution with upcoming events and business travel plans.

Campus in-person events move online or pause 
All in-person events, meetings and gatherings must move to a virtual format or pause until at least Jan. 31, 2022. Please visit the UCalgary Events page for more information.

Avoid in-person meetings
All meetings should be held virtually through January whenever possible.

Domestic travel on UCalgary business
All members of the campus community are urged to avoid or defer all non-essential inter-provincial domestic travel on UCalgary business.

As such, all domestic travel must be approved by your Dean/Senior Leadership Team (SLT) member. Travel may be considered where it must be completed at that place and at that time and your department head and dean have agreed it is important and of strategic value to the university and the individual. The experience must be required to be in-person.

International travel on UCalgary business
All members of the campus community are urged to avoid non-essential international travel.

International travel for conferences, research and student experiences must be approved by your dean or a member of your Senior Leadership Team. If you are travelling on university business, please visit the COVID-19 and UCalgary International Travel page for the latest information.

Masking guidelines update
Non-medical face masks must be worn in all indoor areas on University of Calgary campuses.
Masks may be removed only under the following conditions:

  • When alone at a workstation
  • When consuming food or drink. Note that consuming food and drink is prohibited in teaching spaces where masks must remain on at all times.
  • The following types of masks or face coverings are not acceptable for use on campus:
    • Face shields
    • Neck gaiters (neck warmers)
    • Masks with exhalation valves

In January the Bookstore will be open for online sales only
It will remain open for online sales and customers have the option for shipping or store pickup (must book an appointment).

The Landing remains open
Landing will continue to operate for in-person meal plan service to support residence students.
