The goal of the MediaLightPaths project is to explore the impact of high-speed networks on the world of computer visualization and simulation. MediaLightPaths examines how high bandwidth interactive graphics and sound can be carried over advanced networks in a manner that is faster, smoother and more efficient. The project is innovative because it brings together the worlds of lightpaths and grid computing to redefine the way we think of visualization and simulation. Canada will benefit because it will open up new and enhanced forms of communications such as immersive, virtual environments for work, education and recreation. The project will provide improved productivity, efficiency, access and capacity for both Canadian researchers and content creators. It will showcase the benefits and relevance of broadband networks in a manner that is highly visual and easily understood by the general public. The MediaLightPaths project will clearly demonstrate the potential of new media when delivered over the high-speed networks.
