Polyphase metamorphism in the classic Buchan domain, NE Scotland

For her MSc, Shantal examined the enigmatic Portsoy coastal section of the famous Buchan domain in NE Scotland, where rocks in close proximity contain combinations of cordierite, andalusite, staurolite, kyanite and sillimanite. In contrast to the simple cordierite-andalusite-sillimanite-migmatite progression in other parts of the Buchan region, these relationships suggest some combination of polymetamorphism and tectonic juxtaposition.
