Dr. Paul Starr
Prograde metamorphism of metabasites
Paul studied eclogites from the Western Alps for his MSc degree at Oxford, focusing on the effects of bulk composition on the development of different mineral assemblages. At Calgary, he examined the metamorphic evolution of metabasalts in perhaps the world's best exposed prograde subgreenschist-amphibolite facies transition near Flin Flon, Manitoba, and another between Nelson and Salmo, BC. His work detailed the mineral reactions and mineral compositional changes going upgrade, with implications for equilibrium and kinetic controls of metamorphic reactions and fluid production.
