Age and contact metamorphism of intrusions straddling the Slocan Lake fault, SE BC
Avishai aims to date, using U-Pb geochronology of zircon, several Mesozoic intrusions on the north flank of the Valhalla complex (VC). The VC is one of the constituent metamorphic core complexes of the Shuswap domain of SE BC. The VC is separated from surrounding lower grade rocks by the ductile Valkyr shear zone (~60 Ma) and later ductile-brittle Slocan Lake fault (~50 Ma). The intrusions he wishes to date occur just outside of the VC, north of the Valkyr shear zone, and on either side of the Slocan Lake fault. Combined with assessment of the depth of emplacement from mineral assemblages contained in the contact aureoles, the aim is to constrain the timing of pluton emplacement relative to the faulting.
