Metamorphism and tectonics of the Kootenay Lake metamorphic culmination, SE BC

David worked on structure, metamorphism and tectonics in SW Nova Scotia for his MSc. For his PhD he examined the nature and age of the curious elongate Barrovian metamorphic culmination centred on Kootenay Lake in SE British Columbia, and its juxtaposition against low pressure (andalusite-bearing) contact metamorphic rocks associated with the Nelson Batholith. His work identified a major, hitherto underappreciated Eocene normal fault system between the two, the Gallagher fault system, which explains a number of of the unusual metamorphic, structural and geochronological features of the area.
