Profile
Nicholas Elderfield's research focusses on the development of 3D printing technologies for manufacturing aerospace-grade continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic structures.
Nicholas completed his bachelor's in mechanical engineering at the University of Calgary in 2019. During this degree, he completed a 16-month internship at Pason Systems, a Calgary-based engineering firm focused on oil rig automation equipment. There, he was responsible for developing test fixtures to verify sensor calibration and designing equipment for the field. Additionally, he has contributed a large amount of work towards the University of Calgary Solar Car Team, including the design of the aerodynamic body, suspension system, and battery pack for the team's fifth car. This car went on to win the Formula Sun Grand Prix in Texas in 2019.
