Become leaders in innovation
That's what we're doing with $1.41 billion
Energize next-generation entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurial thinking is at the forefront of teaching and student discovery at UCalgary, thanks in large part to generous investments from the Hunter Family Foundation. Their $40 million gift expanded entrepreneurship education beyond the Haskayne School of Business, establishing the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking, a nucleus for activities that support student experiences across disciplines, enabling faculty to lead in innovation, and expanding a growing community of entrepreneurial and innovative thinkers.
Empower social entrepreneurs
A $5-million gift from Eleanor, BComm’85, and Wayne Chiu helped make the Haskayne School of Business the destination of choice for students interested in social entrepreneurship. The Trico Foundation Social Entrepreneurship Centre supports unique student experiences inside and outside the classroom, including community-based learning, internships, curriculum and research. Students are empowered with new opportunities and all the support they need to enhance their academic experience.
Diversify the economy
Wayne Foo, BSc’77, and Parex Resources donated $3.24 million to the Faculty of Science to create the Parex Resources Innovation Fellowships. The gift established five Parex Resources Innovation Fellowships, as well as one Parex Resources Visiting Innovation Fellowship. These positions will empower researchers to lead and conduct research and community partnerships that fuel startups and technology advancement based on new discoveries, insights and innovation.
Drive innovation — and the economy
An extraordinary gift in kind from Shell Canada Limited transformed the Shell Technology Centre Calgary (STCC) in University Research Park into the Life Sciences Innovation Hub, a dynamic research facility where students, researchers, start-ups and growing companies can access a variety of resources to advance their life science-based businesses.
