UCalgary alumna, Dawn Farrell is an accomplished energy leader, with more than 30 years of experience in the electricity industry. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Farrell graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Arts, from the University of Calgary. She also attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University.
As a committed member of the national and local business community, Farrell sits on the board of directors of The Chemours Company, the Conference Board of Canada, the Business Council of Canada and the Business Council of Alberta. She is also a member of the Trilateral Commission, a non-governmental and policy-oriented forum that brings together leaders from across business, government and academia internationally.
Farrell is the president and chief executive officer of TransAlta, where she is looking at energy of the future. In her role, she has responsibility for the overall stewardship of TransAlta, providing strategic leadership to help transform TransAlta into Canada’s leading clean energy company. Before this, she held a various leadership positions at TransAlta and BC Hydro.
Farrell is a strong advocate for Canadian business and women in business, as well as a dedicated Calgary community member. She was co-chair of the 2013 United Way campaign, which raised a record-setting level of funds for those less fortunate in the city.
