Farhad Maleki
Dr. Farhad Maleki is an assistant professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of Calgary. Dr. Maleki spent his postdoc at the Augmented Intelligence & Precision Health Laboratory (AIPHL) at McGill University, where he was focused on machine learning for medical image analysis. He completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Saskatchewan, where he worked on developing methodologies to analyze genomics and proteomics data. At McGill, Dr. Maleki served as the president of the Association of Postdoctoral Fellows, and at the University of Saskatchewan, he served as the president of the Computer Science Graduate Council. Currently, he is a member of the Machine Learning Education Sub-Committee of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine and serves as a guest editor for several journals focused on medical data analysis.
Christian Jacob
Dr. Christian Jacob is a Professor of computer science and a Professor of biochemistry and molecular biology with the University of Calgary. His research interests are in 3-D story telling using computer game engines, modeling of biological systems, data visualization and analytics, as well as mixed reality to support immersive data presentation and decision making through augmented intelligence. He leads the Evolutionary and Swarm Design Lab and the Lindsay Virtual Human project, which is a computer-generated, 3D virtual human used to illustrate human anatomy and physiology. His team works on computational physiology, with aspirations for virtual drug testing and on innovative teaching and learning environments.
Frank Maurer
Dr. Frank Maurer is the head of the Serious XR (SEER) Lab at the University of Calgary. His current research interests include
- Processes, techniques and tools for developing SerIous XR applications
- UX for XR
- Immersive analytics/immersive control
His past research included work on agile software engineering, multi-surface system, and artificial intelligence/machine learning.
Richard Zhao
Dr. Richard Zhao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Calgary. He leads the Serious Games Research Group, focusing on games and gaming-related technologies for training and educational purposes. In his research, he utilizes artificial intelligence, including reinforcement learning, supervised learning, and search-based AI, to provide adaptive and personalized experiences. Dr. Zhao received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Computing Science from the University of Alberta.
