General Information

The Certificate in Heritage Resource Management is a unique study program for individuals who are either involved in the heritage resource management process or are about to enter the field. The Certificate is offered by the Faculty of Continuing Education. The academic direction of this Certificate is the responsibility of the Faculty of Environmental Design with financial support for the Certificate provided by Alberta Community Development, through the Historical Resources Intern Program. Now entering its eleventh year as a formal entity, to date, over sixty students have graduated from the program.

Given market as well as budget realities, the Certificate in Heritage Resource Management was re-designed and students began formal instruction in the re-designed program during the 1993/94 academic year. The re-design has proven to be a welcome change to the Certificate which was concerned with decreasing the in-class time and number of years necessary to complete the Certificate. Effective in September of 1996, the Certificate in Heritage Resource Management will largely be offered by distance education, through a combination of video and reading materials. Option courses will continue to be offered by formal instruction in a classroom setting.

Instructors are leaders in the field of heritage resource management and courses are oriented to providing state-of-the-art knowledge and skill development.

We are happy to advise that the Certificate continues to gain recognition within the heritage resource management field, and our attempt is always to provide the most up-to-date training possible in the most effective manner possible.
