Social Work students were very humbled and honoured to attend the 8th annual “Sisters in Spirit” Vigil on October 4th, 2011. Hosted by Awa Taan Healing Lodge society, we gathered with other concerned algarians on the steps of the McDougall Centre to honour the more than 580 murdered or missing Aboriginal women and their families.

SWSA marches in the Annual Pride Calgary Parade
On September fourth, Calgary took to the streets to celebrate the 11th annual Calgary Pride Parade. The Social Work Students Association and participating social work students were on hand to march, celebrate and create awareness on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

Social Work Students building Community at the Bow River Flow
On August 21, 2011 thousands of Calgarians and a number of Social Work Students came together for the thrid annual Bow River Flow.
The Bow River Flow is an urban festival of human-powered transportation that celebrates healthy and resilient communities. Through citizen-led programming that incorporates cycling culture, local music and art, a kid's zone, participatory processions, fitness activities, and an appreciation of the Bow River, this event inspires Calgarians to contribute to our dynamic city.

Social Work Students rally to protest victim blaming and rape culture
Social Work Students, including some SWSA officers, joined Calgarian's at Sltwalk YYC to protest victim blaming and rape culture on August 20, 2011. Over a hundred gathered in Calgary's Eau Clair Market to celebrate sexual freedom and bodily integrity. Slutwalk featured a series of speakers and a march around Princess Island Park.
