GC-MS

GC-MS

Apparatus: Clarus 680 & Clarus SQ 8T, Perkin Elmer

Description: The GC-MS (Clarus 680- Clarus SQ 8T, Perkin Elmer) equipped with a Paraffins-Olefins-Naphthenes-Aromatics (PONA) column (Agilent HP-PONA) can analyze the composition of the liquid samples. The components are separated by the column when the oven temperature is ramped following a designed temperature profile. The signal due to each component is detected by MS. The qualification and quantification of these components are executed based on the obtained spectra.

FT-IR

FT-IR

Apparatus: Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS 50

Description: FT-IR (Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS 50, equipped with environmental chamber and gas cell) is used to acquire an infrared spectrum of absorption or emission of a solid, liquid or gas. The resulting spectrum represents the molecular absorption and transmission, creating a molecular fingerprint of the sample.  FTIR can also be used to identify unknown materials, determine the quality or consistency of a sample.

Simulated Distillation Analyzer

Simulated Distillation Analyzer

Apparatus: Agilent GC 8890

Description: Simulated Distillation (SimDist) is a gas chromatographic technique that is used to separate crude oils into the component fractions based on the boiling point, therefore simulating the results of a distillation tower.

Micro-GC

Micro GC

Apparatus: Agilent 490 Micro-GC System

Description: Micro-GC equipped with thermal conductivity detectors can analyze gas sample with concentration from 1 ppm to 100% level. The 4-Channel configuration is powerful for the analysis of H2, O2, N2, CH4, CO, CO2, and C2-C6 hydrocarbon.

ASAP2020

Surface Area and Porosimeter System

Apparatus: Micromeritics ASAP 2020 Plus

Description: The fully automated Micromeritics Surface Area and Porosimeter System (ASAP 2020 Plus) is used to determine specific surface area, porosity and pore size distribution from 3.5 to 5000 Angstroms. This instrument can meet a wide variety of applications for mesopore, micropore, and low surface area applications.

Chemisorption System (Micromeritics AutoChem II 2920)

Chemisorption Analyzer

Description: The fully automated Micromeritics AutoChem II 2920 is used in the catalyst characterization, including TPD (Temperature Programmed Desorption), TPR (Temperature Programmed Reduction), TPO (Temperature Programmed Oxidation), TPSR (Temperature Programmed Surface Reaction), Single-Point BET Analysis, Metal Dispersion Measurement, and Pulse Chemisorption. Temperature range: room temperature ~1100 ºC, Active gas: H2, CO, O2, NH3, Sample loading: 10 ~ 200 mg.

Thermogravimetric analysis

TGA/DSC

Apparatus: Simultaneous Thermal Analyzer (PerkinElmer STA 6000)

Description: This TGA-DSC is manufactured by PerkinElmer. The model is a Simultaneous Thermal Analyzer (PerkinElmer STA 6000). It is capable of measuring the weight change while monitoring the heat effect happening on the samples under the desired gas environment such as N2, O2, CO2 and CH4. Heating up rate up to 200 ºC/min.

Density Meter

Density Meter

Apparatus: Density meter (Anton Paar DMA 4500 M)

Description: This density meter DMA 4500 M is capable of measuring the density a variety of liquid samples such as heavy oil, gasoline, diesel, aqueous solutions and colloid samples. The temperature is controlled between 0 and 100C. It provides a reliable and accurate 5-digit density value. The stable density results based on comprehensive knowledge of the oscillation characteristics. This method results in viscosity correction, which is twice as effective as anything else available on the market. The automatic bubble detection system gives you back control of your filling. The different filling approaches, humidity, air pressure, all these have no effect on the operation and results.

Gas Pycnometer with Chiller

Gas Pycnometer with Chiller

Apparatus: AccuPyc II 1340 Pycnometer with chiller

Description: Recognized as one of the most reliable techniques to obtain true, absolute, skeletal and apparent volume and density. The technique is non-destructive because it uses the gas displacement method to measure the volume and related density. Density calculations using the gas displacement method are much accurate and reproducible compared to the traditional Archimedes water displacement method.

TAN Titrator

Total Acid Numbers (TAN) Titrator

Apparatus: Metrohm 848 Titrino Plus unit

Description: Measuring total acid number (TAN) of the sample by using the potentiometric titration method. Potentiometric titration can test different types of the sample accurately without regard to color.

Viscometer

Viscometer with Temperature Controller

Apparatus: Fungilab SMART series R

Description: Rotational viscometer can measure the viscosity of the fluid by using the idea that the torque required to turn a spindle in a fluid is a function of the viscosity. To prevent the significant effect of temperature on viscosity, the application of a temperature controller ensures the viscosity at a specific temperature can be measured.

Fuel compatibility & stability test (TriboAmix)

Fuel Compatibility & Stability Tester

Apparatus: TRIBOMAR TriboAmix

Description: Testing the compatibility of different fuels and stability of liquid fuels. Test temperature range from ambient to 98 oC.

 Rotary evaporator

Rotary Evaporator

Apparatus: IKA RV 10 Rotary Evaporator

Description: The rotovap can be used to evaporate the solvent from a solid or liquid solute at a decreased temperature by heating with a universal water heating bath and applying a vacuum.
