Turning Ideas Into Action

A Model: The U of C and the Urban Campus Initiative

Participants in the Brain Exchange wanted to be assured that their energy and involvement were not wasted.

They have been asked to listen to the university's perspective and in turn the university is listening to them.

The university is learning from contributions made by community members and is acting in a meaningful way.

The most immediate example of a new partnership with the community has been the Urban Campus Initiative. Led by the University of Calgary and the City of Calgary, this ground-breaking, broadly-based coalition intends to create a thriving educational and cultural experience in the downtown core that will encompass the East Village and Victoria Park.

The Urban Campus is a powerful opportunity for the University to turn collaborative ideas into action.

The Urban Campus is one example of the University moving into the community with partners such as the Calgary Stampede, Calgary Regional Health, the Kahanoff Foundation as well as the City of Calgary.

The U of C has also created partnerships with other educational institutions, such as Mount Royal College, SAIT and Bow Valley College.

Global and local businesses, along with social and cultural agencies, contribute to the collaboration.
