Session Agendas

People and Equipment

  • 1 facilitator to 4 students
  • 1 adult manikin and 1 BVM per room
  • Stethoscopes
  • Rhythm strips (printout, view on website - link found in online simulation OSCEs, or use iPad simulator)
  • Post-It Notes: Write equipment and drugs on them, e.g. "oxygen", "pads/monitor", "IV", "normal saline", "1 mg 1:10,000 epinephrine", to commit to a "doctor's order". Then, stick it onto the manikin to "give it". This strategy offers a visual and kinaesthetic learning aid for practicing managing the acute care situation and keeping record of what has been done.
  • Pens
  • Computer, projector, and ITCB PowerPoint presentation
  • Program agenda
  • Attendance sheet
  • Simulation OSCE sheets

4 students will be in each group. 1 resident volunteer (facilitators will be recruited from any specialty that is interested). Interested staff are also welcome to be a facilitator.

Each of the 4 students, per group, will play one of the following roles: team leader, airway, compressor, and meds/defibrillator. The compressor and meds/defibrillator role will swap every 2 minutes. The resident facilitator will act as the recorder. Each student learner rotates to a different role in each of the 4 cases.
